Margaret Maron developed a very approachable female working as a Lt in the New York Police Murder Division. Unlike other female heros Lt Harald has a hard time fitting in. She is smart and hard working; but socially challenged. I enjoy the mystery besides the struggle of a department head that knows she can function at her job but also knows she just isn't good with people. The series has 8 books so far and was written before cell phones, still it is timeless and enjoyable read. The Right Jack was Number 4 and writer Maron was hitting her stride. Baby Doll #5 kept me guessing. She does an excellent job of building her characters and I'm enjoying her description of New York with a flare of the social art world and relationships while finding the killer. Maron will keep you guessing and leave you with 'feel good' endings.

I purchased this book because it was the only one in this series not available in our large library system. Now, since it is a paperback none of the libraries want it!
Love the Sigrid Harald books! Great characters. Reading one of these books is like spending time with a good friend. Although I enjoy the Deborah Knott series, I much prefer the Sigrid books.
She always delivers a great book. Hard to put down.
I like all of Margaret Maron's stories. They catch my interest early on and with most, I simply cannot put them down until I reach the end.

I have to admit that my favorites are the Deborah Knott stories but that is probably because I was raised in the south and the characters are familiar to me.
Awaiting the next one with great anticipation.

I love each of Margaret Maron's books. This older series is interesting - so different from the Deborah Knott series.
