The Man She Loves To Hate Kelly Hunter Books

For some time, the term "romance novel" was given a negative connotation in my mind...though I devoured them anyway.
The man she loves to hate is a perfect example of why those of the snobby literature circles who believe a Harlequin novel is just fluff and would never consider it literature.
While I wish it could have been longer, it was everything a great novel should be. There was angst, but not just some silly, easily overcome with communication angst. The problems separating Jolie and Cole were serious. Author Kelly Hunter did a beautiful job in both creating and resolving them...especially in such a short story.
I highly recommend this book. Don't let the literary snobs who believe a good story must end in tragedy. The true beauty in a great novel is the ability to tap into the readers emotions and bring a realistic set of circumstances from start to finish in a believable manner. I don't mind the occasional tragic ending, but given me happy any day!

The Man She Loves To Hate Kelly Hunter Books Reviews

I'm not usually the Harlequin type, but it sounded good so I gave it a shot. I liked her writing style and the charcters were enjoyable despite their damaged past. The only thing I wished for in the end was some closure for Jolie and Cole's sister. The story line kept me interested until the end and I was glad I read it.
I love this book.. i agree with the other reviews, i think this is the best romance book i've read so far. The hero's character was not aggressive nor irritating. I love how much Cole loved the heroine. He was willing to give up everything for her. I read this book in 1 sitting.. i couldnt put it down.
I really liked that the premise of the book gave both the H and h legitimate reasons not to like the other, yet neither one was really the offending party but an causality in other peoples' mistakes. The trapped together thing has been done a lot, but the author pulled it off well. 3.5
I don't normally comment on Harlequin books because they tend to be pretty cheesy with similar plots. This book was much different. It did not read like any Harlequin I've ever read in the past. In fact, the entire time I was reading this book I was thinking to myself that this would make a terrific movie.

The story is about Jolie and Cole and how the torrid affair their parents had made them become bitter enemies. Due to circumstances beyond Jolie's control, she was labeled a "boyfriend stealer" in school and shunned by all her former friends. Cole's sister was her best friend until the affair was made public. Their mother made them choose sides, and Jolie was the unfortunate casualty.

From years of suffering heartache and coldness Jolie had built up walls around her heart to keep herself protected. She didn't let many people in. However, she always had a crush on Cole. Even though Cole would not allow himself to speak to or spend time with Jolie, he has always desired her from afar. Fate steps in to bring them together one night as they are both trapped on a gondola in a ski resort. Cole isn't dressed for hiking up a mountain side as he had just gone to his father's funeral and was still in formal wear. Jolie had been in the cabin Cole's father and her mother often shared clearing out her mother's things. Jolie was disguised as a young man dressed in many layers trying to avoid recognition by Cole as they had to share the last gondola ride back to the town below. It was Jolie's strength and determination that got the two of them to protective warmth when an avalanche wipes out the lift and destroys part of the resort. However, Cole was suffering from the effects of hypothermia. Things heat up, and the two of them come together after "just one kiss" that turned out to be the catalyst for a new beginning.

The story focuses on the difficulties of forming a relationship in the face of many obstacles. Thankfully, the storyline isn't about an airheaded heroine who waffles back and forth between does he or does he not love me. It's a story that could truly be based on reality and just leaves you deeply satisfied when you're done with the book. There are so many touching moments in the book. You find yourself rooting for Jolie and Cole as you watch them grow and find ways to overcome so many difficulties that family and obligations put in their path.

This one goes in my keeper pile. I would definitely take this one out and read over and over again.
I would ve liked more character development for the love interest s sister and mother. But if you ignore that tiny flaw, the story is great.
I admit sometimes I choose to pre-view a book because I like the title, so not true in this case. I had passed it up several times before I decided to try a sample. I'm glad I did. This was a very good book. The title kinda makes me cringe. It was well written, the characters were likable( except for the wife) who you would think had at least the sympathy card in her favor, but as it turns out, not so much. Perhaps giving the book a new title "Life Goes On" or something similiar, would allow owners of the book to open it up to read again( it is so on my keeper shelf) without having to shut my eyes until I am past the title. Having the word "hate" in a romance book title is like shooting yourself in the foot. We "title searchers" may end up passing up a book that would give us a lot of enjoyment.
When Jolie was only 12 years old Jolie's mother had an affair with James Rees. James had two kids. Halley, and Cole. Halley was Jolie's best friend, and Jolie had a small crush on Cole. The day everyone found out about the affair Jolie was an outcast. Halley, and Cole and everyone else wouldn't talk or look at Jolie.

Many years later Jolie, and Cole was stranded in a Gondola in a blizzard above the mountain. The wires snapped and sent the gondola crashing to the ground. Together they had to work together to find shelter, and survive the elements. Enemies slowly became friends as they talked and got to know one another. They found that they were attracted to one another, and agreed to share one kiss. That one kiss turned into a hot, and steamy night. Hey the two had to share body heat, to stay warm and guard against hypothermia right?

After they are rescued Cole keeps the friendship going slowly winning over Jolie's trust. Their families have a hard time dealing with the fact Cole, and Jolie are now friends. There was a lot of hurt between the families. Is Cole, and Jolie strong enough to stand up to their families, and stand up for their relationship?
